Cancer/Testis Antigens into mitochondria: a hub between spermatogenesis, tumorigenesis and mitochondrial physiology adaptation

چکیده

Cancer/Testis Antigens (CTAs) genes are expressed only during spermatogenesis and tumorigenesis. Both processes share common specific metabolic adaptation related to energy supply, with a glucose lactate gradient, leading changes in mitochondrial physiology paralleling CTAs expression. In this review, we address the role of mitochondria (mitoCTAs), by reviewing all published data, assessing putative localization screening for presence targeting sequence (MTS). We evidenced that among 276 CTAs, five were already shown interfere activities 67 display potential MTS.

Cancer/testis (CT) antigens, carcinogenesis and spermatogenesis.

During spermatogenesis, spermatogonial stem cells, undifferentiated and differentiated spermatogonia, spermatocytes, spermatids and spermatozoa all express specific antigens, yet the functions of many of these antigens remain unexplored. Studies in the past three decades have shown that many of these transiently expressed genes in developing germ cells are proto-oncogenes and oncogenes, which a...

Mitochondria: the hub of cellular Ca2+ signaling.

Mitochondria couple cellular metabolic state with Ca(2+) transport processes. They therefore control not only their own intra-organelle [Ca(2+)], but they also influence the entire cellular network of cellular Ca(2+) signaling, including the endoplasmic reticulum, the plasma membrane, and the nucleus. Through the detailed study of mitochondrial roles in Ca(2+) signaling, a remarkable picture of...

Import of mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) into rat liver mitochondria stimulates transcription of mitochondrial DNA.

Mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) has been shown to stimulate transcription from mitochondrial DNA promoters in vitro. In order to determine whether changes in TFAM levels also regulate RNA synthesis in situ, recombinant human precursor proteins were imported into the matrix of rat liver mitochondria. After uptake of wt-TFAM, incorporation of [alpha-32P]UTP into mitochondrial mRNAs as...

Relationship between Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Multiple Sclerosis: A Review Study

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that inflammation, demyelination, oligodendrocyte loss, gliosis, axonal injury and neurodegeneration are the main histopathological hallmarks of the disease. Although MS was classically thought as a demyelinating disease, but axonal injury occurs commonly in acute inflammatory lesions. In MS mi...

A Search for Mitochondrial Damage in Alzheimer’s Disease Using Isolated Rat Brain Mitochondria

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects regions of the brain that control cognition, memory, language, speech and awareness to one’s physical surroundings. The pathological initiation and progression of AD is highly complex and its prevalence is on the rise. In his study, Alzheimer's disease was induced with single injection of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides (...
